Dear WHRN members,
In light of the WHO declaration of the COVID-19 outbreak as a global pandemic, the WHRN Executive Committee met this morning to deliberate the planned 2020 Symposium, due to be held in Dubbo on the 11th June. Regrettably, we have decided to postpone the 7th Western NSW Rural Health Symposium. We believe this is necessary as a preventive public health strategy to minimise the risk to the community, in line with NSW Health’s response to COVID-19.
Importantly, the 2020 Symposium is not cancelled. The Committee are still considering options on how to proceed with elements of the planned Symposium, perhaps through a series of online webinars. We intend for the oral research presentation component of the Symposium to proceed in an online format.
To that end we are still accepting abstracts for the Emerging and General Research categories, but have extended the close date for submissions to 1st June 2020.
Please see our website (https://whrnnetwork.wordpress.com/whrn-symposium-2020/) for abstract submission guidelines and go to https://whrn.awardsplatform.com to submit your abstract.
Please share this information with your colleagues. We will let you know our revised plans as soon as possible.
For further information, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
We urge for you to take all necessary actions to prevent the circulation of COVID-19 in Australia and check for regular updates on the NSW Health site.
